Buzz is no different. The copy reads like a manifesto: “model-agnostic AI agents,” “self-hosted,” “open-source.” The UI is a near-clone of Slack. The integration list begins and ends with GitHub. The target audience is Web3 teams and DAOs — but those same teams already have Discord, Telegram, and Matrix. Buzz offers a marginal improvement: AI agents that can review code or manage tasks, but only if you run your own server.

Mattermost already did the open-source, self-hosted chat thing. It has a thriving community, enterprise integrations, and years of battle-testing. Buzz’s edge is supposed to be native AI. But “model-agnostic” means you can plug in any LLM — OpenAI, Anthropic, or a local model. That’s technically elegant but operationally messy. Running a local model requires GPU hardware and ML ops expertise that most teams don’t have.
